If you’re thinking about scheduling an appointment at Daybreak LifeCare Center, you may wonder what to expect during your first visit. Will you need to make any decisions? What questions will you be asked? What services are available?
At Daybreak, we’re here to provide a welcoming, confidential environment where you can find answers, explore your options, and receive compassionate support without judgment.
Here’s what you can expect.
A Warm Welcome and Confidential Care
When you arrive at Daybreak LifeCare Center in Columbia, South Carolina, you’ll be welcomed by our caring staff and volunteers.
We understand that discussing a possible pregnancy can feel personal, especially when you’re unsure about your circumstances or what you want to do next.
Our team is here to listen, answer your questions, and provide compassionate support. Your appointment is confidential, and all of our services are provided at no cost.
Free, Medical-Grade Pregnancy Testing
One of the first steps in understanding your pregnancy is confirming whether you’re pregnant.
Even if you’ve already received a positive result from an at-home test, Daybreak offers free, medical-grade pregnancy testing to help you determine your next steps.
If your test is positive, our team can discuss whether you meet the criteria for a limited obstetrical ultrasound.
Understanding Your Pregnancy Through Ultrasound
A positive pregnancy test is an important first step, but an ultrasound may provide additional information about your pregnancy.
Depending on how far along you are and other eligibility considerations, you may qualify for a free limited obstetrical ultrasound at Daybreak.
An early ultrasound may help determine:
- Whether the pregnancy is located within the uterus.
- Approximately how far along the pregnancy is.
- Whether fetal cardiac activity can be detected.
- An estimated due date.
An ultrasound may not provide all of this information if the pregnancy is very early. Additional medical evaluation or follow-up may sometimes be necessary.
Daybreak’s limited obstetrical ultrasounds are not a substitute for comprehensive prenatal care.
Ask Questions and Explore Your Pregnancy Options
An unexpected pregnancy can raise questions about relationships, finances, education, employment, and the future.
During your visit, you’ll have an opportunity to speak with a compassionate client advocate who will listen to your concerns, answer your questions, and provide information about your pregnancy options, including parenting, adoption, and abortion. Although Daybreak does not perform or refer for abortion services, we’re here to offer information and support as you consider your next steps.
You are welcome to ask questions, share your concerns, or simply talk through what you’re experiencing.
You don’t have to have everything figured out before making an appointment.
Support Beyond Your First Appointment
Many women are surprised to learn that Daybreak offers much more than pregnancy testing and ultrasounds.
Our free services include individual and group counseling, prenatal and parenting education, practical assistance, and referrals to community resources.
Through our Baby Bucks Program, clients can complete educational lessons covering pregnancy, childbirth, parenting, and life skills while earning Baby Bucks to shop for baby essentials at Taylor’s Boutique.
Whether you’re preparing for your baby’s arrival or navigating the challenges of parenting, Daybreak is here to offer encouragement, education, and practical support.
How Should I Prepare for My Appointment?
You don’t need to have all the answers before coming to Daybreak.
However, it may be helpful to know the first day of your last menstrual period, if possible, and to write down any questions you would like to discuss.
If you are experiencing severe abdominal or pelvic pain, heavy bleeding, fainting, or other concerning symptoms, seek immediate medical attention rather than waiting for an appointment.
If you are pregnant, it’s also important to establish care with a qualified prenatal healthcare provider.
