As pregnant mamas-to-be, you spend a lot of time focusing on your pregnancy and essential items you will need for the baby, but you may be wondering what happens to you and your body after birth. It’s important to plan for yourself too! Here are some things to expect after giving birth:
You will still look pregnant.
There is a lot of societal pressure for moms to “bounce back” after having a baby, but your body needs time to recover. It’s totally normal to still have a bump and wear maternity clothes postpartum.
Changing hormones!
Your body has gone through a lot of changes recently from pregnancy to giving birth to postpartum, and some women experience several different emotions. Keep an eye on the different emotions you’re experiencing, and don’t be afraid to reach out to discuss what you’re feeling with a trusted source. Daybreak is always here to offer insight and available resources.
Breastfeeding might be difficult at first.
Breastfeeding can be extremely rewarding, but it is not always easy to get started. Remember that ‘fed is best.’ Whether you choose to breastfeed or use formula, taking care of your baby is all that matters!
You will need time to rest and heal!
You might be dealing with swelling and general uncomfortability after giving birth. It’s important to show yourself a little TLC – soak in an Epsom salt bath and make DIY padsicles to help reduce swelling.
Entering motherhood is a beautiful thing, but it can also feel scary at times. Just remember that you are so much stronger than you know! Daybreak volunteers and staff are here for you every step of the way. Reach out to schedule a consultation today by calling (803) 771-6634.
